Excellent Job!

Great Job to all of the OMS Choir students! You all did such a fantastic job at the concert. We are very proud of your hard work this school year.

Our 8th Graders participated in the East Tennessee Vocal Association (ETVA) Choral Festival on April 23rd. This was an adjudicated event in Knoxville, TN. Our 8th Grade choir received a "Superior" rating, the highest rating given at this festival. Congratulations to the 8th Grade Choir and all of their fantastic hard work!!!

A couple of things for students and parents to be aware of...

1. DVD Sales- If you are interested in purchasing a DVD of the Spring Concert, your child should have brought home a form with ordering information. The DVDs are $15 a piece or $25 for a Spring and Christmas DVD (while supplies last on the Christmas DVDs). Please be sure to have your child send them in by Friday, April 30th. Please be sure to get this DVD. It can be something you can treasure for years to come.

2. Six Flags- Our 8th Graders will be going to Six Flags in Atlanta, GA on Saturday, April 8th. We will be meeting in OMS Choir Room at 7:45 am. This will be an all day trip. We will arrive back at 10:00 pm. If your child sold 5 boxes of fruit in the fruit sale, the trip is free! If your child did not sell that quota, the cost is $25 for a ticket. Be sure that your child has at least $20 for food and drinks such at the theme park. You will be receiving a form from your child about this in detail soon. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail Ms. McPherson or Mr. Tapke.

3. Chattanooga Lookouts Baseball Game- Our 8th Graders have auditioned to sing at a Chattanooga Lookout baseball game and were accepted! The choir will be singing at the Lookouts home game on May 20th. Students will need to be in the OMS choir room by 5:15 pm. We will return at 10:00 pm. There is no cost for your child for Lookouts tickets, but they will need money for food and drinks (7-10 dollars). A form will be sent home soon with more information. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail Ms. McPherson or Mr. Tapke.

Thank you for a fantastic year. One more month and it's all over! Finish strong!

The Choir Department has a busy end of the semester and calendar year coming up. Here a few things you may need to be aware of...

1. Fruit Sale! The fruit orders are coming in THIS FRIDAY, December 4th. Please be sure to come by the school on Friday between 12 and 7 pm to pick up your child's fruit. Please be sure to come during this time, because during the school day the following week, we will be terribly busy with your children getting the concert music prepared. Thank you for your consideration. There have been letters that were sent home this week to help remind you of this. If you have any questions at all, please e-mail Ms. McPherson or Mr. Tapke.

2. Choir Concert! The choir concert is quickly coming upon us. The dress rehearsal will be at the Conn Center at Lee University during your child's related arts periods on Monday, December 14th. The concert will be that same evening at 7:00 pm. Your child is to be in their seats at the Conn Center at 6:45 pm. It is important that your child be there so our helpers can take attendance. Part of good concert etiquette as a performer is to be on time for the call time and staying the entire concert. We look forward to you being apart of your child's musical experience. If you have any questions, please e-mail Ms. McPherson or Mr. Tapke.

3, DVD Forms- There will be a form being sent home for DVD orders. We will be sending them home with yoru child next week. Please be sure to ask them for the form if you are interested. The cost of one DVD is $15. If you buy the Christmas concert and pre-order the Spring Concert, you will get both for $25.

Parents- Thank you for your involvement and all that you do.

Thank you for all of your help and support for the fruit sale!

2. We have new vocabulary words this week. The students have seen them this week on the LCD screen. Here is the list and definitions for all the words. Unfortunately, some symbols can not be created with this blog, so please refer to google.com to see what they look like.

2. 1st Ending- (Google the symbol)

3. 2nd Ending- (Google the symbol)

4. Subito- Italian for suddenly

5. mf- Mezzo Forte- medium loud

Weekly Posting

We hope all of you have a had a good week. We apologize for the late post this week. There are just a few things to be mentioned this week.

1. Vocabulary will be given to choir students next week. The words will be provided on the blog next week for studying.

2. FRUIT SALE! We have received e-mails from some parents about the price of the fruit boxes. The price for all small boxes of fruit are $16. If you have any other questions, feel free to e-mail us. Remember... ALL orders are due by next Friday, November 13th. Please be sure to get all orders in by then.

3. As discussed in the Booster meeting on Monday night, our Booster membership is low this year. To give some families who did not get the opportunity to become booster members, will receive one more opportunity to do so. There will be a letter coming home to you in the very near future if you did NOT join Boosters. Parents, please be on the look out for this and ask your child for the form.

4. Lastly, if you can help the choir on December 4th with Fruit Sale delivery, please e-mail us or call us and let us know. We will need several volunteers to help oversee the students bring the fruit into the choir room. Also, we need some parent volunteers for the Christmas Concert. We have several posts that need to be filled to make the concert run smoothly.

Thank you for all of your support! E-mail us if you have any questions at all!
